No Fuel Shortage in India, Government Assures; LPG Supply Stable Amid Global Concerns

New Delhi | March 22, 2026

The Government of India has assured citizens that there is no shortage of essential fuels across the country, stating that oil refineries are operating at high capacity and sufficient stocks of petrol and diesel are available. According to the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, fuel supply at retail outlets remains stable, with no reports of shortages.

In an official statement, the ministry confirmed that the supply of domestic LPG cylinders continues without disruption and that panic bookings have reduced. It also highlighted that additional commercial LPG allocations have been made to states, with priority given to essential sectors such as hospitals and educational institutions. Efforts are also underway to expand PNG (Piped Natural Gas) connections for both domestic and commercial users.

Authorities have stepped up action against LPG hoarding and black marketing, with raids being conducted across various states and Union Territories. State governments have also been advised to support the expansion of PNG infrastructure to ensure smoother access to fuel for consumers.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways is closely monitoring maritime operations to ensure the smooth movement of trade and safety of Indian seafarers. Over 547 seafarers have been safely repatriated so far. The Ministry of External Affairs is also tracking developments in West Asia, ensuring the safe return of Indian nationals. With flight operations continuing from countries like the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Oman, more than 3.5 lakh passengers have returned to India since February 28.
